Utrecht

I made it to Utrecht where my friend Najwa lived. Vera, Najwa, and I hung out a lot in Thailand so we were trying to plan a day where all three of us could get together. I was the only one with no schedule but their schedules were quite tight. We thought we found a good day to get together but with life something always comes up. Vera unfortunately couldn’t come because a meeting for her thesis was rescheduled for that day. I took the train out myself to see Najwa.

It was like a rom com movie where the lovers see each other again. We finally found each other in the streets using the WhatsApp live location and ran to each other for a hug. In Thailand, we just kept bumping into each other randomly which was so fun every time it would happen. She showed me around Utrecht a bit being a small tour guide and then we stopped in at a cafe to sit and chat.

I just love catching up with people and having the time to talk about anything/everything. After coffee we did a little window shopping. Utrecht had a lot of cool thrift stores however I didn’t have much room in my bag for more clothes and it was still pricey. We ended up stopping for a beer. It’s so different here than in Canada with their restaurant patios. Basically all the restaurants are in a square and in the middle they fill up the whole space with the patios. To me it looks like one huge patio but they were all individual to the restaurants. Very confusing, but a cool concept.

Unfortunately, Najwa couldn’t stay long and had to be somewhere. I was just happy we had time to get together and catch up. It was so nice to see her and hopefully I’ll see again one day.

Ps. I become less of a tourist when I spend the day with others because I feel silly taking pictures when we just walk around the town. Hence, the lack of photos haha. I do enjoy it though to just stroll and take everything in.
