Continuing day 1 of the tour. After the hike to the waterfall we got back on the boat around 2:30 pm and headed off to our next destination. There were so many kids playing in the river by our boat, it was very cute.

We stopped on the side of the river at a little restaurant. We could see some people on the patio and it was Wolf and his friends. The fact that we weren’t even in Nong Khiaw but just stopping somewhere random along the river and bumped into him is crazy. We caught up a little but we had a hike to start. Unfortunately it was a little more steep and rocky than they explained, so Morgan and Kelsey couldn’t participate. Thibaut and I pushed through and it was about 25 minutes to the top. The hike consisted of many random ladders and climbing rocks, but the view at the top was beautiful. (mind the smoke)

On the way down, there was actually an entrance to a cave. The tour guide took us through and it was really nice because the air was much cooler.

We made our way back down to meet up with Kelsey and Morgan. We had one more boat ride to get to the town, Sob Jam, which was where our homestay was.

We finally arrived. The sun was just starting to set when we got settled in. We all got to have a shower, which consisted of a hose and a bucket, but it did the job and felt so refreshing. Our rooms were more than I hoped for, a comfy bed with a mosquito net.

After freshening up, we were shown to one of the local workers shop for weaving. We were shown how it all works and honestly it’s crazy how much time and energy goes into a piece.

Afterwards it was dinner time. Very simple dishes, rice, squash soup, bamboo shoots, and some sort of greens. I enjoyed the flavors of all of it. We got a little lesson after dinner about hand weaving with bamboo. They really know tourists and our big water bottles from 7/11 and they helped us make holders.

We thanked them for the food and everything, and headed back to our rooms for the night. It was 8:30 pm but we were all so tired already. I actually had the best sleep since it cooled down at night and we left the window open for air flow.
