My first full day in Nong Khiaw was lovely. I spent a part of the day with the group figuring out a tour to do. We ended up settling on a tour that took us up the river stopping along the way for hikes or lunch, and took us to a small local village for a homestay. I had previously hoped to find a tour that took us up a mountain to camp on the top and watch the sunrise above the clouds. It sounded amazing, but the local was very straight with us all about how the sunrises have been horrible recently because of the smoke. (Burning season) After we booked our tour for the next day we took the day to relax and grab some traditional Laos massages. We found a place that had massages for $5 for an hour, which is still crazy to me and I always like to tip the person.
Later in the night Rita, who I absolutely adored, was in Nong Khiaw and heading out the next day. We made the most of it and hung out all night. We grabbed dinner all together and then went shopping for snacks to bring on our tour.
After shopping we walked to the only little bar open near us. We were the only table there but we shared a couple drinks and laughs.
