Wow. What an experience. I read up on some history before travelling, but being here in person was a different level of learning. To be put into the shoes Vietnamese people were put in during the war.. truly scary. I did a half day tour to the Cu Chi Tunnels where they showed us the tunnels, war remnants, and explained the situations the people were in. I met two people from my hostel in Dalat on the tour, Jake being one of them.

Before leaving I grabbed some “breakfast” which consisted of a sandwich and a bao bun. The sandwhich looked interesting, but it was really good.

We stopped at a rest stop/store which had some really cool art pieces. It was all made out of tiny pieces of eggshells that when put together created an image.

We continued on to the tunnels. They showed us tiny entrances to the tunnels hidden all over the place and of course the one you could try to go in. The hole was tiny as is but I’m pretty sure they made the hole slightly bigger over the years so tourists could fit in it. (Vietnamese people during the war were tiny). It was a fun experience on the outside but scary to think about them using them during the war.

They had other entrances to the tunnels that were pretty hidden. Some of them had small holes just to provide more ventilation underground. During the war, if they were discovered either grenades, water, or gas, were put down the hole knowing it would kill a bunch of people living underground.

Moving on from the tunnels, the tour showed us some of the traps they use to use. All very horrible but effective for that time.

Next stop, walking through the tunnels. Being able to walk through and experience the tunnels is what this tour was known for. I’ve never been claustrophobic in my life yet being that far underground in small pathways made me uneasy. It could’ve also been the fact that they LIVED down there for 3 years, and didn’t have any light. I was already creeped out being down there with some light, but to imagine it completely pitch black was worse.

At the end of the tunnel coming out of the exit my friend Jake was so kind and scared me bad. 🤣 I guess I was already on edge and creeped out.

We were given a snack, it was tapioca which I love, yet I’ve never actually had it unprocessed.🤣 It had an interesting texture and had a mild potato flavour. We ate it with some sugar/salt and tea.

Some more art, but this time made with rice.

We headed home, and I had a nice quiet evening staying in and packing up for my flight.
