(June 1st) This morning a few of the contiki members were in the lounge area playing poker, and I joined even though I had no idea what I was doing. It was fun but after the long game finished most of them had to go pack and catch their flights. After that I had some time to kill, which felt really weird to me since the last few weeks I was always on the move. I had already explored Christchurch when I was here a few days before my tour started so there wasn’t much point in going out to explore. I mostly took the extra time to relax and souvenir shop.
I made my own stir fry dinner that night and while I was eating a person who was very talkative and eating near me, started up a conversation with me. He was travelling from Italy and we got to talking about our travels and what we were doing in Christchurch. I told him I was leaving soon and needed souvenirs and he invited me to come along shopping the next day if I wanted some company.

(June 2nd) Today I ended up going out shopping with Francisco(the guy from Italy) and it was a fun time, plus the weather was pretty nice that day. We stopped to get some coffee first and a berry cake to split. It came with a syringe so you could fill the cake yourself.
They had a cool hallway to the washrooms though. It looked like it was a bookshelf but then it automatically opened when you were near it, I just loved the idea of it. Also they had tubes running all over the ceilings and down the pillars to each table top. They had certain food they could wrap up and send right to your table which was weird but a cool idea.
Next we did a bunch of shopping around to get some souvenirs, and on the way back to the hostel he asked me if I had seen the huge game system that was set up on a street. I hadn’t and I was so surprised when I saw it, it was so cool and it worked much better with two people controlling it because it was just too big to use for one person. It was also free to play which I feel like is uncommon for any “attraction” but this was put in place for the residents there to give them some fun after all the trauma they went through with earthquakes over the years.
It was a pretty fun day and then I had a nice night in just working on my blog and re-packing for my long flights ahead. I was definitely going to miss Christchurch, it was a really cute town, but obviously I was going to miss New Zealand in general once I left.
