Our tour was official over once we were dropped back off in Christchurch. We had a group dinner that night as one last night together so that was something to look forward to. Everyone went back to their hotels/hostels, and a few of the other contiki members also booked some nights in the same hostel I was in so that was nice. Unfortunately I don’t have any photos from that night so this will just be a purely written blog post.
Later in the evening, the whole group met up again at the restaurant, we got drinks and then the appetizers started coming in. Not going to lie the appetizers were really good and probably better than the actual dinner itself. I didn’t really care though because it was just fun to have one last night all together and enjoy each others company. After dessert and all, most people were staying in a hotel that was right beside the restaurant and we all headed over there into the lobby. Everyone mostly mingled while saying a bunch of goodbyes and adding each other on social media. People started leaving one by one to go to their rooms and slowly it became a smaller and smaller group.
There was a small group left, mostly of close friends I made, and we decided it would be fun to go for a night walk and have one last little outing together. It was a nice way to end the night and when we got back to the hotel lobby there was a lot more goodbyes and hugs to go around. I was so sad to leave them knowing I wouldn’t see them the next day for a fun adventure. Also fortunately there were two other people with me that were staying in my hostel so we walked back together once everyone else headed up to their rooms.
I couldn’t believe the tour had officially ended, it was a decent amount of time but of course it flew by because of all the fun I had. Since the tour ended that brought up the thought that I was going home in a few short days. Just thinking about going home was exhilarating but also felt foreign to me. I felt like the next flight I took should take me to my next destination to explore. I had about 2 full days left in Christchurch before catching many flights to get me back to Canada.
