(May 31st) Today was a sad day because it was the last day of our tour. From Franz Josef we made our way back to Christchurch where we started our tour. We stopped in a small town called Hokitika. It had a really nice beach we could visit and also this amazing sandwich place. They sliced their meat, cheese, everything freshly for each sandwich.
There was another pit stop we made but it was more for the views and picture taking. It was so foggy there that we only got to see the valley and mountains for a little bit. Also there were these birds that just wanted to eat anything. They were everywhere and at point there was one on our bus so our tour guide, Josh, took someones crutch and held it up in front of the bird. Of course it tried to nibble on it and take it.
Back on the road, I had some time to doodle and we went through Arthur’s Pass to get back to Christchurch. Since I had already been through it about 11 days before it was cool to see the difference in scenery. New Zealand was slowly getting colder so there was a lot more snow on the mountains this time.
Next we stopped in a town called Springfield, which was our last stop outside of Christchurch. It was known for its huge pink doughnut sculpture. A lot of people went to get snacks and use the washroom but me and a bunch of others went to go take pictures and try to climb in it.
