(April 29-30th on Whitsundays 2 day 1 night sailing tour) Once I got to Airlie beach the next morning I had to go to the pier to meet for the sailing tour. We left to sail for the day around 9am with only 18 people. It was a nice small group and the boat was surprisingly big. The captain got some of us to help put the sail up and I was astonished how much the boat tipped.
The first day we went snorkeling, twice, which was my first time trying snorkeling. We all got stinger suits and the first stop was at on place on the barrier reef that had tons of coral right by the surface since the water level was low. It was absolutely beautiful. Since it was my first time I fell in love right away and couldn’t get enough. There were hundreds of jelly fish in the water as well which freaked me out a bit.
The second place we stopped was even better because there were schools of fish everywhere. The coral was beautiful but I loved just swimming with the fish up close and personal.
After a day of snorkelling we headed into a bay for the night to avoid a lot of waves. We got to watch the sunset while having dinner together. Two people that I came close with decided to sleep outside and so did I. We weren’t allowed to bring the mattress out but only the sheet and pillow so it wasn’t that comfy on the hard surface. It also got really cold during the middle of the night so I did end up going inside to sleep in my little bunk. Star gazing all night was absolutely amazing. I could see everything because there was no light pollution around. Staying outside in the cold was definitely worth it.
The next day was amazing. Unfortunately there was no more snorkeling but I was determined to go snorkeling again before I left Australia. We started the day early around 7 am with a nice breakfast. We had a nice boat ride over to the Whitehaven beach. It’s known for its unspoiled pure white sand and beautiful blue waters. We had to hike for about half an hour to get there but even the hike was amazing. Coming through the bushes to see the beach before me was amazing and so peaceful. We relaxed by the beach for awhile and took pictures. There was also a lookout point that showed off the whole beach.
After the beach we had a huge lunch and headed back to the pier. We were pretty far away so it took a few hours to get back.
Back at the docks I got invited to dinner with the two close friends I made, Kirra and Keira, (both from Australia). We were able to catch the sunset while having a very tasty dinner. I hadn’t booked a hostel for the night and got very lucky because there was one more space left in the room the other two were staying in.
