This was the moment I was waiting for. I specifically planned my whole trip around being in Japan to see the cherry blossoms. My last full day in Japan they were full bloom and perfect to have Hanami. Hanami is a Japanese tradition to have a picnic under the cherry blossoms.
My parents had many friends still in Japan and it was pretty cool to meet them. Sakoda invited Mr.Uchiyama to have lunch with us. We got some bento boxes from 7/11( so fancy) and went to the Hitoyoshi castle ruins. This is when I found out that I had been there before when it wasn’t full bloom yet. We had a lovely lunch under the cherry blossoms and after that Sakoda drove us to find another friend of my parents.
We arrived at a little apartment and went up to Mr.Fukudas level. Once again he couldn’t believe I was Marks daughter and that I was travelling alone at the age of 18. They served us all some tea and sweets which were delicious.
The story behind how they know my dad is pretty funny. When my dad was in Japan he ended up teaching English but just on his own. He had a little group of students and the class was called “Akuma Ei Kaiwa” which translates to “Devil’s English Conversation”.
Also just in a store underneath Mr.Fukuda’s apartment he had many paintings up for display and one was of my dad cycling.
Later that day we all had a dinner out for my last night, some of Sakodas friends joined as well as Mr.Uchiyama and Mr.Fukuda. I think they pre ordered a bunch of food because I swear we sat down, got some drinks, and platters of food started coming out continuously. We were all stuffed to the max when we left, but once we got outside they bought some sweet potatos from a little food truck. We continued on to a bar which was pretty much empty and very fancy. We had more drinks and had our spread of sweet potatos and then the fun began. Everyone wanted to do karaoke and it was funny seeing them sing while tipsy. It was a good way to end my last day in Japan.
