(March 4th) This day was very rainy so I had no plans with Hiroshi. I decided to explore the neighbourhood he lives in. I just wandered around because I love seeing all the tiny homes with such different characteristics. I liked walking around but it was rainy and got really cold so I decided to stop in a little coffee shop I saw.
I wasn’t sure what to do afterwards but then I figured I would stay and draw. I haven’t had as much time as I thought I would to draw on my travels. So this was the perfect opportunity. I drew on a small peice of paper so it wouldn’t take as long but there was a lot of detail to include. I was there for over an hour just relaxing and drawing and it was really nice. At one point I asked where the toilet was and she showed me to it but it was a japanese squat toilet and she kept making an x with her fingers. I would’ve used it but she closed the door and waved me to follow her out of the restaurant. She lived above the restaruant and said it was her home and she let me use her western style toilet. It was pretty funny but also shows how japanese people really try to make you feel welcome and comfortable by going the extra mile.
Also Japanese people are so innovated. Since they have small houses having a toilet and a sink takes up too much space. So when you flush the toilet the sink is attached and sends clean water through which saves how much water you use too.
After that I decided to make the drawing into a little card for her. I wrote in the card thank you so much and hot coffee on a cold day was really nice.
After I paid I gave her the card and gave her some maple candies and Canada pins as a little gift. I said “mepuru siruppu kyandi” from Canada. She said thank you many times and showed it to the other guest that was there and her co worker.
It was still pretty cold when I left and all my friends were saying I should buy something from the vending machines. I got a coffee drink thinking it would be a cold coffee drink but when it came out it was burning my hands. Besides the slight tin taste it was good. Canada has to step their game up with vending machines.
When I got back home we had dinner shortly after and it was sooo good. I was always stuffed after every meal while staying with Hiroshi.
