I ended up adding Netherlands to my South East Asia backpacking trip, it makes total sense right?! Technically it’s a stop on the way home. The flights took a toll, I think it was about 30 hour travel time. At times though the views were so cool, with huge mountain ranges, greenery, or what looked like I was flying over mars.
A friend of mine who I met in Thailand, Vera, was so sweet and offered her place for me to stay as long as I wanted. She was in school and working but let me have full access to her place like it was my own. I arrived at the airport and she was there to pick me up. We grabbed McDonald’s for a quick dinner and headed back to hers. She lives in a small town called Amersfoort, which was actually in the perfect location to get to a bunch of other cities.
