Started the day off with free breakfast from the hostel, one of the options was instant ramen with an egg accompanied with tea/coffee, juice, and fresh fruit. It was a whole spread.
Today a group of us had planned to make our own tubing trip. They did have a similar version of tipsy tubing from Pai, where you have to sign up and then tube down the river and stop at bars. Most of us didn’t want to do that but still wanted to go tubing. We found out we could just rent some tubes and do it ourselves. It ended up being a lot more chill and fun. We brought our own speaker and fruit for the day. We stopped once for a quick break and to snack on some fresh fruit we got the night prior, and then half way down the river we stopped at a local floating restaurant. It was an experience.
The food was really good. We didn’t really know what we were getting since the menu was not in English and the servers didn’t know any English. Which was totally fine, it just made for a more interesting experience. Plus, the music made the atmosphere even better.
We continued down the river, which by the way was 10x better than the one in Pai because it actually had enough water so we wouldn’t scrap our butts on rocks. The day was perfect for tubing with some sunshine and good weather.
We made it to the end of the tubing route just in time before it got darker. Thankfully even though we rented the tubes we were able to just leave them with the rest of the pile of tubes instead of carrying them back to the store. The walk back was a little chaotic. Our maps weren’t working the greatest and we ended up turning around 3 times and finally just had to cross a muddy stream to get back to the street. On our walk home we saw some hot air balloons going up for sunset, and I realized that would be me soon…
Got back to the hostel to shower off the river water and get ready to go out for dinner. Some people wanted to grab hotpot, which I wasn’t in the mood for but the restaurant had Mexican food and hotpot available? Very interesting combination. The food wasn’t the best but was a nice dinner out with friends.
Walking back to the hostel from dinner I treated myself to some roti.
