I booked a half day tour to take me around the island and do some snorkelling. It was so beautiful to just be on the boat for the day. We had 45 minutes to snorkel at the first stop. I didn’t take my underwater camera because I figured I’d have time to use it on the next stops. Bad idea, because this “snorkelling tour” only included that one stop to snorkel. It was a little disappointing but still a good day overall. It was nice to snorkel and just focus on everything infront of me without looking through the camera.
We had another stop at a place to swim for a bit. It was insane how crystal clear the water was. We continued on towards Maya Beach which was a real tourist trap. It’s known for its beautiful waters and sand which is why it’s too popular. I was already sunburnt from the day before and didn’t think it was smart to spend another hour laying on a beach. They also requested a large entrance fee which was a little silly. Apparently to keep the beach pristine, you’re not allowed to go swimming, only up to your waist, so I’m glad I didn’t go. A few others and me stayed back to relax on the boat.
Last stop was at monkey island. Again, no snorkelling but we swam around and there were monkeys all hanging around the cliff. Very friendly, and of course wanted food.
We got back to the main island around 2 pm and I grabbed some food, pad kra poa.
In the evening, I went to the reggae bar. From the name you’d think it would be a chill bar with reggae playing, nope! It was a Muay Thai fighting bar. Everyone went there at night to drink and watch people, locals or tourists, fight in the boxing ring. Benji convinced me to come along because he said he was going to fight. I didn’t know what to expect when I got there but wow it was packed and crazy. 🤣 Very uncommon experience happened… the first fight I walked into happening, one of the guys ended up getting hit hard multiple times and he literally pooped himself! LOL I can’t help but laugh but also feel absolutely horrible for him. I just can’t believe that was the first fight I ever saw. Props to him for walking off proudly. But of course after that they had to clean it up and Benji didn’t want to fight, understandably. 😅
It was so hot in the bar with so many people crammed inside. I decided to leave and just go to the beach again for the fire show. Headed home shortly after, but apparently Benji did end up going in the ring and winning.
