From Ninh Binh I came to Phong Nha. It was amazing for being a smaller city and more rural. I checked in late and the next morning for breakfast I met two girls from England who were solo travelling but travelling together for a bit. Hope and Cerys. I ended up staying with them for the 2 days I was there. After breakfast we all decided we wanted to go somewhere called the Duck Stop and the Monkey Bridge. We rented bicycles to get there, and usually I would just grab a scooter because it’s faster but honestly the bikes made the experience better. The scenery in Phong Nha was so beautiful and everything was vibrant green.

We stopped in at the Duck Stop first but realized you could only do the activity and get food as a combo. Since we all weren’t hungry yet we decided to continue down the road to the monkey bridge, about another 10 minutes on the bike.

We took about 10 minutes to relax on the hammocks overlooking the bridge. Then when we were ready headed on down. The owner helped us get in all the safety gear: helmets, lifejackets, and knee pads. It was definitely a look.

You got three tries to go over the bridge, on my first try this is what happened.😂😭 It all went wrong so fast. The owner said if you’re falling lean with it. But I guess if you are only thinking about falling you’ll fall.. so I was thinking about staying on. It all happened in a split second where my front tire only slightly went off the bridge and then I face planted into it.😭 They give you a helmet, but after that I was thinking to myself why not a chin/jaw strap. Anywayssss it’s hilarious now and a funny memory but did not feel fun.

This was how you were suppose to try the bridge.👆🏻 The owner said no one had ever done that, but I don’t believe him.😅 There were a few other people that went after us and one of the guys did hit his side on the bridge. I don’t know if it makes me a bad person but I was a little happy that someone else hurt themselves and that I wasn’t the only one.🤣

After that very fun experience.. ha, we headed back off down to the Duck Stop.

Overall even though it hurt I wouldn’t change a thing. It is what it is! Now I have a silly story that makes all my friends laugh.
