The next main thing I wanted to do in Cat Ba was a hike to Dinh ngu lam viewpoint, in Cat Ba National Park. I booked a bus off the island at 3:30 but had the whole day to myself. I had a quick breakfast and checked out of my homestay. They let me store all my luggage there and I got to rent a scooter for $6.
I fell in love with this little scooter. Nothing special about it besides being the first one I got to ride in Vietnam. But the feeling it gave me was unreal. It was a perfect sunny day, and the roads here weren’t crazy like Hanoi. The happiness and sense of freedom it gave me put a smile on my face I couldn’t help hiding.
Once I arrived at the hiking entrance, it was a small fee to get it. It was a little confusing on where to go to start the hike and I just asked someone randomly if it was the correct way. He said he didn’t know either but was pretty sure it was straight.😅 We ended up doing the whole hike together for moral support. It’s funny how travelling can allow you to just get to know someone in a day, and then you part ways. Very bittersweet. But I learned his name was Alphee(he said it’s a dog name😅), he’s been travelling the past 5 months with his girlfriend, he’s 23, from the UK, and so much more. I just love hearing other people’s travel and life experiences.
Had to get some cool travellers photos too of course.
We relaxed at the top of the mountain for a gooood while to take in the views and oxygen after that crazy hike. Going back down was a breeeeze, thank god. The ticket I had to buy also allowed you to visit a cave near by, so we stopped in and did a quick 10-20 minute walk around.
After the cave, Alphee and I said goodbye and I had plenty of time to go into town and relax before my bus. I was warned the Ha Giang Loop can get cold so I ended up buying a couple long sleeves in case and some snacks before hitting the road.
Now time for a 11 hour bus ride!😆
