As much as I would love to stay in Hanoi it’s time to move on. I actually only booked my first 3 nights of accommodation before I left, so I could stay flexible in where I go. Thankfully, I got a bunch of advice from people along the way. I decided the best route was to go to Cat Ba Island next, around a 3 hour bus/ferry ride from Hanoi.

I had to check out around 11 from central backpackers hostel and wait until 2 pm for my bus. I got some lunch and walked the streets one last time before heading out.

On the bus ride over I ended up at the back of the bus and met the sweetest couple, I guess cool kids sit at the back still😎. We ended up getting along so well and hung out the whole time. Once we arrived at Cat Ba Island everyone was getting dropped off one by one at their different accommodations. I guess they didn’t realize where mine was because apparently it was “too out of the way” for a bus. I ended up being the last one on the bus and then had to get on a scooter, my first time, WITH ALL MY LUGGAGE! First of all I didn’t sign up for that😅, and second, the roads to my homestay were very hilly so having a huge backpack on my back while going uphill wasn’t the most comfiest. I felt like the scooter could tip backwards at anytime, even though that wouldn’t happen. Thankfully, I arrived safe and sound and checked into my beautiful homestay.

After being in a 6 dorm hostel, having this to myself felt like absolute LUXURY. I gasped outloud when I saw free towels stocked in the washroom.🤣 It’s the little things.

I ended up grabbing dinner and drinks with the couple I met earlier, Lew and Chloe, we had a great meal and played cards for the rest of the night.
