I only stayed one night in a hostel near the airport. The next day I took the bus into Auckland city to find my next hostel. As I was walking with all my stuff from the bus stop I met someone who was trying to talk or sell something to people on the street. Usually I would just ignore them and carry on but I did stop to see what she was talking about. We ended up having a really good conversation because she was talking about the mind, which I am really interested in. The only reason she stopped me was because I was wearing very flowy comfy pants and she figured I was into yoga. We agreed on a lot of points and she showed me a book about different kind of aspects of life and it seemed really interesting. She said they were giving it away for free and were taking donations for an organization. I only had $6 in change and she said no matter how small the donation was I could have the book so it was perfect.
I made it to my hostel and was really tired from all the travelling. My phone unfortunately was also glitching out and not charging properly and soon died. I decided to go to bed early and find a phone repair shop the next day. Fortunately there was one around the corner and somehow when he used his charger it magically started charging and then when I used mine it worked. I had no idea how but I was glad I didn’t have to get a new phone. I found out something funny from my mom when we talked a few days later on the phone. They knew I landed and was in Auckland but since my phone died they got really worried. My dad ended up hacking my hostelworld account to see that I had booked my new hostel. Furthermore they called reception and asked if I was checked in, she said I was, but they asked if they could just check my room. My parents told me that the lady asked ” you know it’s 12 am here right?” but she did go check on me and said I was in my bed passed out. The lengths my parents went through to make sure I was safe and sound was very heart warming and cute.
There wasn’t too much to do in Auckland but my hostel was just off the biggest shopping street in the city so that gave me something to do. I just toured around and also tried to find some cute cafes to visit. I ended up finding one that was just a hole in the wall but very nicely decorated and my style. I went there one night and also the next morning when I was leaving to travel down south more.
I was only in Auckland city for two nights. In my room I had two guys from Germany who were in New Zealand on a working holiday. They just finished their other job at a farm and had a huge bag of these weird fruits. They were good but almost too sour for me to eat a lot. We stayed in at night playing some card games and talking which was really relaxing.
The day I left I got the see more of the city while walking to the bus station. I swear there’s a structure like the CN Tower everywhere.
