(May 4th) NEW ZEALAND! I knew there would be some kind of bumps along the way on my trip. Considering I had been travelling for 4 months already I was surprised how smoothly everything had gone with flights, accommodation and all. My biggest problem was getting into New Zealand. (Also the morning of my flight I had a very lovely looking breakfast but not so lovely tasting. It was drenched in maple syrup and I know I’m Canadian and all but it was a bit much.)
I had a flight from Cairns to Sydney and then Sydney to Auckland. I got to the airport 3 hours beforehand and when I went to check in for my flights they usually check me in for both to save time. (More information: I bought an around the world ticket that gets you the cheapest flights and you pay for them all at once. The only flight I didn’t book was my flight home from New Zealand in case I wanted to extended my time there.) Anyways, when I went to check in they could only check me into the first flight but not the second flight because I needed proof that I was going to leave the country within 3 months. The Wifi was horrible and none of my phone calls were going through to try and book a flight through my ‘around the world’ company, Airtreks. The time was going by so fast and the odds seemed to be against me trying to get a flight booked. Thanks to my lovely parents they were able to help me and booked a ticket for me while I was on my flight to Sydney. Once I landed I got the confirmation e-mail and was able to check in. I don’t know what I would’ve done if it wasn’t for their help.
I got to my hostel at 1 am and passed out right away.
Also just a random interesting thing I saw. In the airport the Mcdonalds had their kitchen on a level up and had a conveyer belt to bring the food down.
