(May 2nd) I had less time in Cairns than I had hoped for but I made the most of it and had tours each day I was here. I went to Fitzroy Island so I could experience snorkeling again. I woke up at 7 am to meet at the pier for the boat ride over. It was only a little group of us and about a hour long boat ride. I met a really nice man that was on vacation with his family who were visiting from Melbourne. We ended talking almost the whole time just about life and he was really amazed and supportive of what I was doing on my travels. We talked about his travels with his family and he told me to visit a place called Kuranda( which was actually the place I was going the next day). He told me I had to find a little food truck that sold the best falafel wraps and were to die for. But he also said what made it even better was the guy running the place. He had the most happiest and friendliest personality ever and it made it that much more worth it to go.

When we arrived at Fitzroy Island it was absolutely stunning. It was also very secluded with one resort, a store, a restaurant, and a place to rent out kayaks, paddles boards, and equipment to snorkel. The first thing I did was get my snorkel gear and hop in the water. Finally I also got great weather and it was a beautiful sunny day to go snorkeling.

After awhile I went to grab some lunch and relax. The food was amazing and the view from the patio was amazing.

The rest of the day I spent on the beach relaxing or in the water falling more in love with everything I was witnessing. At one point I was floating above a reef shark which was amazing. If someone didn’t tell me earlier that they are more scared of us than we are of them I would’ve panicked. But since I knew , I was able to take in the moment and watch it swim around under me. As soon as I moved a little it swam away really fast. I loved every second swimming over the beautiful coral and swimming with the fish. I also saw a gigantic fish which actually frightened me at first because of how huge it was.
