I wasn’t sure how long I was going to stay with the Van Wijks but I ended up going camping with them and stayed the full 2 weeks. It was for the Easter weekend which made it even better. I had to say goodbye to their home but not to them yet. We had a 4 hour drive with a camper van attached to the car. The weather for the next 4 days wasn’t the best and it practically rained everyday we were there. Even though the weather was bad it did create a double rainbow.

When we arrived the area was absolutely beautiful and in the middle of no where. Their camper van was set up just for 5 people so instead of sleeping on the floor I got my own little tent. It was such a great group of people as well. Everyone that was there came every year for Easter so all their kids grew up together. It was also nice to have people my age around since I had been on my own for awhile. It felt amazing to camp again and be immersed completely by nature and wildlife. The nights were rainy and cold but I still felt warm inside from all the company, camp fires, and singing. They also had some very cute dogs there. The black and white one definitely hit my heart because of how similar he looked to my grandmas old dog, higgans.

The day before Easter Sunday all the kids were painting eggs. They brought all kinds of nail polish (different colours, sparkles, etc) and I decided to paint my nails for the first time in forever. They ended up looking like highlighter orange but all the kids were obsessed with them. Throughout the days there we mostly played card/board games inside due to the weather. When it wasn’t raining we took the chance to go outside and play hide and seek, red rover, and made dance routines. At one point we did go down to the creek and a few of us went swimming, the water was way too cold for me, but Erin and another little girl went in.

Sunday morning, surprisingly didn’t rain, and we were able to have a nice egg hunt. A few other older girls and I hid all the chocolate eggs with a few big eggs hidden as well. It was such a fun time and in the end a lot of the younger kids would keep giving us chocolate to eat because we had none. What they didn’t know was that we were snacking on a few eggs while hiding the rest. April came up and gave me two chocolate eggs but one was so light. I soon realized she took the hollow egg she painted and wrapped it in the wrapper from the chocolates. It was very cute and funny.

Due to the weather being cold and rainy, many people left on Monday because there wasn’t much to stick around for. I think my host family were the only ones to stay one more night. I became close with two sisters named Darcy and Alannah. I had to get back to Brisbane and they were also heading into Brisbane on Monday. I wanted to stay with my host family but it felt so nice to just be with people my age and they even offered me to stay with them for a night or two.
