At my new home in Sandgate I was working longer days but they said I could have three days off instead of two. I arrived on a Tuesday, looked after the kids on Wednesday, and had Thursday off. Wednesday we all went for a bike ride around their neighbourhood, so it really didn’t feel like work and it was really fun. Thursday I went to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary which was almost like the Australian Zoo but without the crocodile show and much cheaper. Where they had the Koalas was perfect. Since Koalas never come down from trees, they were able to just put a border up around trees and you could stand really close to them.
The Koalas were the main attraction for me but they also had a huge area housing kangaroos and emus. You could walk through and get close and personal with them and feed them.
Here is just a few more animals that were in the place. One other animal that really caught my attention was the platupus. It was so interesting just watching them swim and very cute.
Lastly, I got to hold a Koala. You had to hold your hands very steady and together like a little seat for the koala. As soon as she came toward me with the Koala I noticed it was pooping a little so I was moving my hands back and all. So she had to stop and tell me how important it was to keep my hands still but she wasn’t aware of the koala pooping. I had no words to say and she probably thought I was scared to hold the koala. I technically was scared because I really didn’t want to hold a pooping koala but once it finished its buisness it was a good experience.
