From Japan I flew into Australia landing around 7 am in Brisbane, Gold Coast. In Grade 7 we had a teacher swap so my teacher went to Australia and our class got an Australian teacher. Before my travels I went to my elementary school to ask my Grade 7 teacher if he still had his contact. Fortunately he did and I e-mailed him if he had any recommendations about places to see or things to do. His wife got back to me about a few things but also said they remembered me from the class photo and that I was welcome to stay with them for a little bit.

Being with the hamils was amazing. School was just ending when I arrived so during the days it was mostly just me and Melanie (Mr. Hamils wife). She has such a kind soul and I loved spending time with her. She invited me everywhere and even tried to find magazines or brochures of what to do in Australia. Being in the Gold Coast and in Australia in general was very relaxing because Australia is known for their beaches so you just have to tour around and go to beaches.

During my first few days, I relaxed a lot. Melanie and I went to burleigh heads which had a beautiful walking trail and it was raining on and off that day but we timed it perfectly so it didn’t rain during our whole walk. Also one evening I got a tour from Mr.Hamil showing me around the neighbourhood on bikes.
